Teacher Resources for Civic Education

For almost a decade, Center community lawyers have helped teachers teach hands-on civic education. For math, science and art classes, it is second nature for teachers to assign math problems to solve, science experiments to conduct or pictures to draw - but what is the civic equivalent? How can teachers integrate that same participatory element present in math, science and art classes to social studies?

The Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building democracy, has developed a library of hands-on civic lesson plans for both middle and high school teachers to help bridge the gap between teaching what it means to live in a democracy in theory versus what it means to live in a democracy in practice.

Contact the Center to receive a copy of the civic education lesson plans, to have a community lawyer visit your class to help implement the lesson plan, or to have a community lawyer visit your class as a guest speaker.
