"CAC community lawyers approach complex issues right here on the
local level. They have also created a new educational project that is
a service to teachers and students alike, and continue to host a variety
of programs devoted to public concerns all year long. To be a CAC volunteer
is to observe the commitment, generosity, and energy that these community
lawyers share as citizen advocates in our on going American goal of
forming, "a more perfect Union."
Corinne Johnson, CAC supporter since 1994
Too many people only pay attention to their take home pay. Most
do not contemplate that about a third of their income goes to the government.
I want to influence how that third is spent. CAC newsletters and forums
keep me updated on issues that weaken my community. As a result, I am
empowered. CAC teaches me how to affect change: educating my family,
friends, neighbors and co-workers about the important issues, registering
voters, running on the ballot, writing to my elected officials, organizing
community fairs, and being active in organizations. By transforming
society, we can persuade our elected officials to spend our tax money
wisely. We are in charge of the world we live in and CAC is there to
guide us when we want to create a revolution."
Marcia De La Rosa, CAC supporter since 1996
"I support the CAC because it is an all-purpose center for democracy.
Any issue, any time, any place, the CAC is the only place to go when
help is needed to address an issue of public concern. CAC community
lawyers roll up their sleeves to protect the public's right to open
government and teach everyone, regardless of a point of view, how to
be a "good citizen."
Matt DuPree, CAC supporter since 1997
"I support the CAC because it teaches what democracy should be.
As one of the interns lucky enough to be selected to participate in
the CAC's mission, I learned advocacy and legal research skills not
taught in law school. I also learned that the immediate results are
not always what you hoped for, but over time the benefits of consistently
working to make local communities a strong democracy become apparent.
Even once I opened my own practice, I relied on the CAC as a stronghold
for both legal advice and encouragement in order to continue to advocate
for citizens' rights when government becomes oppressive."
Ellen Raymond, Attorney at Law, CAC supporter since 1998
"I was introduced to the CAC one year ago, and have utilized it
numerous times - from inquiries regarding the local and federal government,
to attending their free and public community presentations. I have learned
a great deal about my rights as a citizen, and as a result, I have voiced
my opinion by speaking at public meetings, writing letters to local
newspapers, and getting involved in my community. I applaud the CAC's
enthusiasm and willingness to educate everyone about democracy. I encourage
the public to show their support by contributing financially as I have!
" Liz Ambrogi, CAC supporter since 2004
